The Birth
of OPALOTA

This is not the public version of the story. This is how it really happened. A name, a memory, a fish, Torre dell’Orso, Oxford, more than a thousand digital assets, Artificial Intelligence, Natural Intelligence and one question: what if everything could finally converge into one global system?

01 · IT STARTED WITH A NAME

I was looking at domains.

It began the way many of my ideas begin: not with a business plan, not with a consultant and not with a PowerPoint presentation. It began with a name.

I was thinking about OPA LOKA, a name connected in my memory with Torre dell’Orso, in Salento. A place, a sound, something that had remained somewhere in my head for years.

Then the game began.

OPA LOKA OPALOKA OPALOCA OPALOTA

One letter changed. And suddenly it was no longer simply a memory. It started to sound like something else.

OPALOTA.

Seven letters. Simple. International. Easy to look at. Easy to imagine on an app, on a building, on a screen, at an airport, inside a university presentation or in front of a technology company.

02 · THE OPA

A small fish inside a much bigger idea.

In the Salento language and in my memories, “opa” connects with the boga, a humble Mediterranean fish.

And that made me smile because, in some strange way, it reflected how I sometimes see myself in this enormous digital ocean.

I am not Booking. I am not Expedia. I am not Airbnb. I do not have their capital, their teams or their infrastructure.

I am the small fish.

But I have spent years collecting names, ideas, territories, digital assets and observations. About 1,300 domains at one point.

A small fish can still understand the ocean.

And sometimes the small fish sees things that the very large ships no longer notice.

03 · THE DOMAIN

Then I found OPALOTA.com.

I expected the obvious names to be occupied. Most good short global names already are.

But OPALOTA.com was there.

Available.

I looked at it again. Then I looked at OPALOTA.it.

Available too.

At that point it was no longer only wordplay. There was an actual digital identity in front of me.

OPALOTA.com
OPALOTA.it

I bought them.

That was the moment the idea stopped being hypothetical.

04 · OXFORDSHIRE

Then another idea changed.

For months I had been thinking about Oxfordshire.world as a place where a real digital accommodation system could be developed.

Oxfordshire made sense. I live and work in England. I observe this territory every day. I am close to Oxford and to one of the most extraordinary concentrations of science, research and technology in the country.

Oxfordshire.world could become a serious territorial platform.

But then OPALOTA appeared and I asked myself a different question:

Why build the global system inside a territorial name?

Oxfordshire should represent Oxfordshire. Puglia should represent Puglia. Melendugno should represent Melendugno. Great Britain should represent Great Britain.

The global system needs a global name.

05 · THE NEW ARCHITECTURE

One system. Many territories.

This was the strategic breakthrough.

I no longer want to install and develop a complete independent travel platform on every territorial domain.

The territorial domains can remain powerful local doors. They can publish stories, guides, destinations, accommodation profiles, local offers and even local listings.

They can be operated by local partners. They can become franchises. They can have their own editorial identity.

But underneath, the global data and the global travel infrastructure can converge into one system:

OPALOTA.
OxfordShire.world Local identity, content, acquisition, editorial presence, territorial network and UK pilot.
PUGLIA.world Regional ecosystem and local access point to businesses, places, hospitality and experiences.
MIELENDUGNO.com Hyperlocal creativity, territory, culture and experimental digital storytelling.
OPALOTA.com The global layer where territories, structures, data, discovery and future booking technology can converge.
06 · SINGLE CANONICAL TRUTH

A property should not have to be rebuilt a hundred times.

If a hotel in Oxfordshire enters the system, its core information should exist once.

That same accommodation can then appear on Oxfordshire.world, on a city page, on a local ecosystem and on OPALOTA.

One object. Multiple projections.

If the information changes, the system should not require people to manually correct the same data on dozens of websites.

Single canonical truth.
Multiple territorial projections.

This is the principle that can turn hundreds of domains from disconnected websites into a network.

07 · THE DOMAINS

The domains are not the software.

For years I accumulated digital names. Countries. Regions. Cities. Tourism concepts. Hospitality names. H24 names. .com, .one, .world and many others.

At one point the portfolio reached roughly 1,300 digital assets.

The mistake would be to believe that every domain needs its own software, its own database and its own independent universe.

It does not.

A domain can be an entrance. A vertical. A geographic layer. A campaign. A publishing surface. A franchise territory.

OPALOTA can become the shared global engine.

08 · FRANCHISING

Think globally. Operate locally.

The territorial sites do not disappear. They become more useful.

A local operator knows the hotels, restaurants, businesses, people and geography of a place far better than a global office thousands of kilometres away.

So the model can allow territorial operators to develop their own ecosystems and local commercial relationships.

But the technological heart does not need to be rebuilt every time.

Local intelligence.
Global infrastructure.
09 · AI + NI

This project was not generated by Artificial Intelligence.

Artificial Intelligence is inside the process. But it is not the origin of the process.

The names, memories, domains, photographs, mistakes, observations, places, work experience, years in Italy and years in England come from real life.

AI helps me connect, analyse, organise, challenge and accelerate.

I call the other side NI:

Natural Intelligence.

Human curiosity. Memory. Instinct. Taste. Experience. Imagination.

OPALOTA is being born through the collaboration between the two.

AI + NI.
10 · HARWELL

Build it here. Then show it.

I am in England. Around Oxfordshire there are universities, researchers, engineers, developers, technology businesses and companies working at an extraordinary level.

Harwell is part of the environment I see around me.

My idea is not to pretend I can personally code every layer of a global system alone.

The goal is to arrive with something real: the domains, the brand, the architecture, the data model, the territorial network, a working prototype and a clear vision.

Then show it.

Not: “I have an idea.”
But: “This is what we have already built.”
11 · TWO MONTHS

The first mission.

OPALOTA.com will have a WordPress installation first.

Not because WordPress must become the permanent technological core of everything, but because it allows the project to become visible, explainable and presentable immediately.

The first phase is simple: protect the name, create the identity, design the architecture, document the project and build a credible presentation.

The objective is to have something serious enough to put in front of universities, developers, technology companies and potential partners.

12 · THE PEOPLE BEHIND IT

Three different levels.

SUPERMARIO.WORKS LTD Company, operational structure, infrastructure, development and execution.
UMBERTO BRUNO Creative signature, naming, research, storytelling and another way of seeing things.
TERRITORIAL ECOSYSTEMS Local knowledge, communities, editorial content, acquisition and future franchising.
OPALOTA The potential global product. The system that connects the network.
13 · WHAT THE NAME MEANS

Publicly, the name does not need an explanation.

OPALOTA must be able to live independently.

Most people who one day use the platform may never know where the word came from.

That is fine.

The origin belongs to the private history of the project: Torre dell’Orso, OPA LOKA, the sound of the name, the “opa”, the fish, the transformation of letters, the domain search and the exact moment when OPALOTA appeared on the screen.

The public brand can simply be:

OPALOTA.
THE BEGINNING

First a name.
Then a system.
Then the world.

I do not know today how large OPALOTA will become. Nobody can know that.

But I know why I want to build it.

I do not want 1,300 disconnected websites. I want an intelligent network.

I do not want every territory to reinvent the same software. I want territories to preserve their identity while contributing to something larger.

And I do not want Artificial Intelligence to replace human intelligence. I want the two to work together.

OPALOTA
One Global System.
Many Territorial Doors.
